Here is the email I received today:

Dear World Book Night book giver,



Yes, you read that right: World Book Night book giver! Has a nice ring to it, yes? And you're one of them, or will be on April 23! Thank you!!!!!!!



Three things for you to do right now:



1) Smile, shout; whatever you like to do to celebrate. And accept our grateful thanks for your application. World Book Night is all about you and your passion for books and your community and fellow citizen.



2) TELL MORE OF YOUR FRIENDS! You're in, the deadline has been extended to Monday, Feb. 6 at midnight, and the more the merrier.



3) Mark your calendars: look for another email the wk. of Feb. 13 with the call to go online and choose your pick-up bookstore or library.



4) Do NOT gloat if a friend or colleague didn't get this email. (Not that this is the golden WillyWonka ticket, but we do hope you are as happy as we are.) More about this follows.



If someone you know who applied didn't hear from us, it's one of several things: a bad email address; an email blocker (even though we used Constant Contact, a great service); some act of nature as one of the four application reviewers had a twitch or coffee jolt; or your pal applied in the last few days, which we haven't read yet. (Yes, there is a very slight chance that their application wasn't, umm, good . . . nah, not a friend of ours! Have them check spam.)



The only bummer we have to report is that many of you will not be getting your first choice of Hunger Games; it was that popular. Hopefully, you'll be happy with your second choice; we think so--it's an amazing list of books, yes? If the change of book changes where you want to go, you don't need to reapply; we trust you.



We also know that several hundred folks who we accepted as givers won't get this email for the reasons noted above; if you know someone, tell them that everyone who applied with any care or thoughtfulness will get their box of books come April 23. Everyone take a deep breath. We'll find a way, and we plan to have extra boxes stationed all over America. No book lover will be denied.

We were buried with applications during the last week of the sign-up period, at the same time that several books were completely spoken for by earlier applicants. And we wanted to carefully read every application, which we faithfully have.So, at last, we are emailing to say that you will indeed be a book giver on April 23!

Dear World Book Night giver,



Hi, everyone. By late next week, around Feb. 24th or 25th, you'll receive an email with the title of the book you'll have to give out on April 23 and directions for you to go back online and search by zip to find a bookstore or library signed up near you as a box pick-up point for mid-April. We know a holiday week is coming up, but there will be plenty of time to confirm your location, and it will not be first come, first served. All good.



If you know someone who still hasn't heard at all from us, please pass along our apologies...we have been swamped! We are still reviewing applications received Feb. 2 or later and hope to get those emails out soon.

Dear WBN giver,



An important update! We had said you'd hear from your local store or library by April 1, but it is taking us MUCH longer to communicate thousands of lines of giver data to over 2,200 stores and libraries than we expected.



In turn, the booksellers and librarians need time in their busy work schedule to turn around an email to you.



Please don't stress. Let us do that!



The boxes are shipping to arrive the week of April 16, which gives you plenty of time before April 23.



Please do not contact your pick-up location before April 16.



All the boxes are being labeled with your lovely names on them, and will be on the road via UPS to stores and libraries before long . . . AND we do have boxes in reserve for any that go missing.



As many of you are saying on Facebook, it's all good.

Dear World Book Night friend,



Congratulations! You are a 2013 World Book Night giver!



We will email you more information, including which book you'll be giving away and how to choose your pick-up location, by early next week. Once you receive that follow-up email, you must go online to choose your pick-up location by Sunday, March 3 at midnight.



If you are receiving this email, you have been accepted for World Book Night 2013. Our system sends emails out in batches for quality control reasons. Because of this, some of you will receive the email with next steps later than others. However, everyone should receive the follow-up email by early next week.
