I'm trying to quit smoking. Today - only 3 days without a cigarette! :)

Does anyone have already quit smoking? Or maybe trying to ...

My husband recently quit due to C.O.P.D. and it was hard. But the first 7 days are the hardest and if you can get thru those without picking up, it will get easier. He tried the Chantix, but it gave him extremely vivid nightmares that he would wake up screaming from, so in the end he just did it cold turkey.

Good Luck SadMan!!!

Thank you. Very hard I will be tomorrow, Friday - usually when I drink beer (smoking a cigarette) with friends. Beer without cigarettes - a completely different taste! :drinks::banghead:

I have a big problem .... without smoke I always want to eat!

Now have to fight the urge to eat (like a PACMAN) everything in my refrigerator...

That is a common problem. I kept hard candies and lolipops in the house for my husband when he was like that. Nicotine helps to curb your appetite and you don't really realize how much until you quit smoking.

I quite using Chantix. Had very vivid dreams, but enjoyed them. I used their online support, which proved helpful. Of course I quite drinking two years prior, so that made it a bit easier. I was also scared because I was falsely told I had COPD. Can't imagine trying to quite while drinking. I do know that I really needed to want it badly. If you're not there mentally, failure is the outcome. I have been smoke free now for about eight years. Rarely do I crave a smoke and that thought is fleeting. It's worth the effort and I wish you and everybody who tries my best wishes in your endeavor.

Good luck Sadman. I quit cold turkey 18 years ago. I'm extremely stubborn though. Once I set my mind to it there is no stopping me. The weirdest thing though was I ate potatoes like crazy. I have no idea why, but it seemed to help. lol

Now I try to lose weight. I lost only 15 pounds this month. (today weight 184 pounds) It's not enough, im still 2 fat :( my cheeks look like they are made of silicone :) A month eating only vegetables and oatmeal. I'm tired of all this. Well, today allowed himself to drink a some Ballantine's. On an empty stomach .... looks like tomorrow will be a strong hangover. Cheers...

Congrats on the quitting smoking! If anything, that was SO much better than the weight. My husband quit 3 days before our wedding and gained 25 pounds on our honeymoon! (We were gone for 2 two weeks!)...can't talk about the weight thing- after I had my thyroid removed, they can't get my levels controlled due to another med I am taking :( I used to be SO skinny!

My Uncle David had a bilateral lung transplant due to smoking- I went with him and my aunt to Pittsburgh. Gone for 3 months. That was 4 years ago this past fall. He just turned 59. (I am 47- he is my Godfather) So, if ANYTHING- I try to get people to quit (plus being a nurse too) and I will not enter any sweeps by cig companies - I feel it just promotes it.

Congrads on quitting smoking ~ I have not had a cigarette in about 25 years ~ Lots of tootsie pops worked for me ~ It was more of the idea that you had to have something in your mouth all the time ~ that is why so many people eat more ~ but a tootsie pop you put in your mouth and take out just like you would a cigarette so it tricks your body into thinking that is what it is getting ~ weird analogy but it works

Hope you survive the hang over :) I had a couple of beers after not drinking for quite a few months and they hit me hard :)
