Ok, I need any ideas from all you 'crafty' people! I am co-chairing (I know, I am nuts) our BIG fundraiser for our Civic League which is a dinner/dance. This year theme is Roaring 20's. (This year's proceeds are going benefit Alzheimer's Awareness- which is our Home Life Project)The one thing I am in charge of is the silent/live auction...live auction is nice way of saying basket raffle. We are getting A LOT of gift certificates which is great! Some of them are 8x10 in size so I am going to frame them in picture frames and that way the person gets a nice frame too. BUT what about the weird size gift certificates? What do I do with those? I don't want to put everything in a frame either... plus, I don't want to shove them in a bag where you can't really see them. Question is: how do I display them? Ideas?

Not sure if this is helpful but this is what we did for our auction. We had LOTS of gift certificates donated. Unfortuanatley our first year we put them out and some came up 'missing'. (Yes, people stole the merchandise we were auctioning to raise money.) So in the years following, we had a big board with multi-colored papers telling what each one was for and they were numbered. we then put bags out with corresponding numbers. We kept the GCs up with us. When they claimed the prize we handed them the actual GC. People were fine with it and that way, none were stolen.

Im not very crafty, but you can put the weird shape ones in a blank note cards found at Micheals, or the Dollar store. Bring the certificate with you for size. Also you can use construction paper for homemade envelopes, hth.......just a thought.

Thanks so far for the ideas guys... we are having it at a VERY posh country club- even nicer than the country club we had it at last year! So I am not sure theft would be a problem. HOWEVER, I found out that that all non-profits need a license to have any kind of 'gaming' in PA...including this. Our president of our club 'poo-poo' me when I talked to her about this yesterday saying they had the problem the year before and we are a non-profit and we don't need it...uhhh, yeah- and why do all the fire companies have their licenses up at picnics and other events? UGH! I had to text my co-chair and tell her...don't feel like going to jail or getting a HUGE fine in front of everyone!

Any other ideas and ways to keep me out of jail?

1st off-I'm not alot of help.No ideas & these days my thoughts are kinda foggy-LOL
2nd-not sure about the licensing thing, but I'm sure your local township could answer-nowadays you have a right to be concerned cuz everything seems to be regulated.

listing it as "Donations" instead of ticket prices is a way to get around it ~ Around here they will ask for a $2 donation for a chance to win or a $2 donation for a bowl of chili (or whatever price you want for whatever) Don't know exactly how it works but that is what I have seen at other functions

Thanks- we already have ALL posters printed and not worded that way... I can word the silent auction that way (on the papers).

BUT I texted my co-chair who is the Ways and Means Chair (in other words she is IN CHARGE) and told her. She heard the president poo-poo it and I told her she needs to look into it...if she doesn't and we have the president of the STATE there and the cops come-well... I have EVERY text saved.

I can only beg and plead so much...
