Going to tell you about a wonderful woman who is a college professor, a Girl Scout Leader and also my daughter(s) canoe coach and mentor. Her name is Phileshia. I have known her for many, many years. When my girls were VERY little and they were at weekend camp she would come and 'teach' paddling and talk with them about canoeing. When they were older they ended up joining the canoe team, which is also a Girl Scout troop (so they were in two troops) and she is the head coach. She also teaches at a local college.

She is a great mentor for my girls and helped both of them in every way possible- canoeing, confidence, leadership, responsibility, etc. etc. Name it and she has done it. She has ADHD as well, so my girls have seen her go through the education system and still become a successful educator. However, having this, they always had to re-direct her themselves during meets since she gets so excited and a little off- track (which she tells them and they have other coaches as well)

My oldest has 'graduated' out of the canoe program but goes back to coach when she can. My younger daughter is a Senior this year and is president and co-captain of the team with her friend Dana.

Phil's grandmother was dying this past year (her parents have passed away) so she was the only living relative to take care of her and she took some time off to do so before she passed away.

I am not a Facebook person- just on there to do sweeps and coupons. Only people that have my FB account are my kids, the canoe team (for practices) and Phil (same reason) Just saw a post from Phil saying that two of her college colleagues were talking VERY loudly about her outside her office in the copy room saying how she would use "the gay card" to fight for her tenure and many other nasty things I can't and don't want to repeat here. :( Oh, yes, did I mention this wonderful woman who as helped so many people and students is gay? Most people wouldn't know- nor would they care. Apparently, these two individuals were not only mean behind her back but when confronted- which she did, they were mean to her face. They were mad she took time off to care for her dying grandmother...oh, I didn't mention that one of these people was her mentor at the college yet too!

I didn't post anything on FB- I do not do that...I am going to write her a note/letter telling her how wonderful she is and how appreciated she is!

It looks like she will be leaving this college- this was the college my daughter (older) originally wanted to go to- they turned her away even though she was in the National Honor Society, straight A's, etc. because of the 'classes' she took and her disability. I was livid! Phil told me she could still go there and take classes and a 'wait and see'. My daughter said no and said it was the best choice she made- was thinking about going there for the last 2 years she needed but I think we are going to re-think that.

BTW, my oldest daughter got inducted into HER college's National Honor Society this past Sunday- I was VERY proud! :)

Please say a prayer for Phil....she doesn't deserve this kind of treatment!
